2023 Reparations
In 2023, Coaching for Healing Justice and Liberation (CHJL) made donations to Black and Indigenous organizations to support organizations organizing and advancing the lives of Black and Indigenous communities. Since CHJL formed in 2020, we have always committed to donating a percentage of our foundational support as part of our reparations work.
At CHJL, we acknowledge the entwined legacies of continued settler occupation and anti-blackness as they persist today and we follow the respective traditions practiced by our ancestors that leads us to healing, justice, and liberation.
The process for identifying organizations to receive this donation was conducted internally by CHJL staff who chose organizations that were not only a mission alignment to CHJL, but organizations that spoke to the values and lived experiences of staff as well.
The 11 organizations selected have missions that range from economic justice, food security, criminal justice reform, traditional culture keeping, environmental justice, and policy through community organizing and coalition building. This reach of work impacts Black and Indigenous communities in regions of the West, Southwest, Mid Atlantic, East and the Deep South.

Dion’s Chicago Dream is to create financial, physical, and emotional stability for Chicago’s residents by combating food insecurity while addressing food deserts in neighborhoods across the city. Dion’s Dream is to use nutritional philanthropy as a catalyst to build community and transform lives. As an idea born in the heart of Englewood to give back to the community that raised him, Dion’s initiative has expanded to assist residents in need in every Chicago neighborhood through the power of fresh, healthy food.

Islah LA

Islah LA is one of the first of its kind, inner-city community center founded by Muslim-Americans to serve South Los Angeles. Founded by Imam Jihad Saadiq Saafir. Our goal of Islah LA is service to the greater community and to provide inclusive community space key for social services to the surrounding areas. That is why we chose the Arabic word, “Islah”, because of its meaning to renew, revive, and restore. Our services include food pantry, mental health counseling, zakat (financial relief), housing, and re-entry services to formerly incarcerated individuals. Islah hopes to remedy the immediate and long-term needs of our community.

Our organization serves the indigenous migrant communities on California's Central Coast, and we provide a myriad of services and resources ranging from immigration assistance through our MILA program, labor justice, and policy advocacy, all to further our mission of empowering, organizing, and supporting our indigenous community.

New Mexico Black Central Organizing Committee

The New Mexico Black Central Organizing Committee (NMBCOC) is 501c3 organization that serves as a strategy and policy lab with the mission of centering the lived experience of Black New Mexicans through building community power, advocacy, education and outreach. Our work is built on joyful collaboration, coalition, and community building. The NMBCOC works to create a better every day lived experience for Black New Mexicans and to make our lives visible. We do this by engaging in deep relationship building, community organizing, research, and policy development through an intersectional, liberatory, and healing justice lens. Philadelphia Community Bail Fund

The mission of the Philadelphia Community Bail Fund is to end cash bail and pretrial detention in our city. Until that day, we post bail for our neighbors who cannot afford to pay.
Since May 2017, we've freed over 860 people imprisoned pretrial in Philadelphia and posted over $6.9 million in bail.

We want to ensure that our Tribe’s self-determination is recognized and our cultural heritage is maintained for future generations.

Turning Tables is changing the current face of hospitality by providing mentorship, cultivating leadership, and creating pathways by advocating for equity in the hospitality industry.
Our vision is to create a hospitality industry in New Orleans and beyond that is a model of inclusivity, diversity and equity.
Entering our 4th year, our mission extends far beyond our years. We have been able to expand our offerings beyond our 12-week workforce development program and build a community within the hospitality industry that honors and reflects the city we serve (New Orleans). It is in this city that we found the love and support to uplift our efforts. This city has supported our students, alumni, and leadership. This city is loved around the globe.
